Goodbye Coach

May 11, 2008

Dear Coach Mike,

I don’t blame you for signing with the Knicks. I would’ve left the Suns, too if I had Steve Kerr on my neck as well. I want to say thank you for the four wonderful years you spent with Phoenix. You are a true hall-of-famer since you were the one who brought back the excitement into the league. I applaud you, I admire you. You once said that you wouldn’t leave the team unless Steve Nash leaves too, so that no one will know who the true genius is. But I guess this is inevitable. Coaching the Knicks would be a tall order and I would like to wish you goodluck. Please continue bringing exciting basketball into the league. You may not have championship rings yet but you have inspired so many to take up basketball and enjoy the sport so much.

Thank you coach. I feel that you have coached me as well. Good Luck in New York. Please send my regards to Q as well. He, like you, also spent a magical time in Phoenix. You are a basketball genius and I hope, one day, you will win that coveted ring all players & coaches wants.

A fan since the start,

Joyce

Earlier today, Kobe was awarded with the NBA MVP Award. It was well deserved. He is one of the greatest and a sure shot in the hall of fame. His closest rival was Chris Paul by a long shot. Who deserved the award more? Here’s my take on the subject.

I believe that the MVP award should go to the most valuable player in a team that achieved far beyond what is expected of them. He should be the catalyst of that success and the major factor on why his team is where it is today. Kobe is the best player that ever graced the league, that I will believe. I believe he is better than Jordan. Period. Chris Paul is the new guy who has achieved so much. Maybe he isn’t at his peak yet – that in itself is terrifying. Imagine him 3-4 years from now.

So who is more deserving of the award? Now don’t hate me. I am a big fan of both players. Kobe is my idol. I love how he plays and I admire his passion for the game. CP3, I am a big fan. His tenacity in the court and his leadership at such a young age makes me a big follower of his game. I think this season’s MVP is Chris Paul. The only thing that worked against him is that a great player is also in the running for the same award. Kobe has championship rings, commercial deals and a lot of credentials in his belt. Chris Paul is a new guy, a neophyte. But if you look at the past season, CP3 is more deserving. I think the voters just handed off the award to the best player in the world who haven’t won the award yet. No complaints on my part. Besides, CP3 has a lifetime ahead to win at least 3 more MVPs.

Right now, I’m just tuning in on the Playoffs and hope that these two fantastic players meet each other in the West Finals and prove once and for all, who can carry his team to the NBA Finals. Besides, MVP is just a mere accolade… getting a championship ring is much sweeter.
